How to Load and Save Layouts (WT Sim)

Please see the video below for a video explanation on loading and saving window layouts in the WT Sim. At the bottom of this article, you can also find a file with simulator layouts as a back-up in case you have overwritten your default files.

PLEASE NOTE that these layouts are for the WT Sim ONLY. Layout files from other Sterling platforms should not be interchanged as they are not always 100% compatible. 

How to Load & Save Layouts

If you accidentally overrode your default layout, you can download new layouts from the file attached at the bottom of this article. The default destination for all these files should be in your C Drive. C: >Program files > Warrior > Warriortrading Sim  > Layouts 

***Please remember that layout files from Sterling, CMEG, Lightspeed or any other platform that offers the Sterling platform are not usable with the Warrior Trading Simulator, and vice versa.***

Actions Menu Meanings

Left-click on the “Actions” menu and you will find the following options to manage layouts:

LOAD LAYOUT - Loads a previously saved layout.

SAVE LAYOUT - Save your current layout.  Open windows are saved in their current position on the screen.

SAVE LAYOUT AS - Save your current layout under a different name or folder.

CREATE BACKUP From the above menu you can create a backup of all your Layout files.

1. In the Actions menu click on “Create Backup…”

2. A menu will pop up requesting you select a folder to save the backup to.

3. Select the folder and click OK.  A backup of all your Sterling Trader® Pro files will be added to that folder.

RESTORE BACKUP-  Reloads previously backed-up Sterling Trader® Pro files.

SWITCH TO FOCUS WINDOW – A window, such as Level II Order Entry, can be designated the “Focus” window. In certain windows, such as Stock Watch, a trader can set the action of double-clicking to automatically switch to the focus window.

TABBED WINDOW - Groups this window with all windows that a user selects as a "Tabbed Window".  When using the preset hot key called "Window Tab", the focus will cycle through each tabbed window.

RESTORE ALL - Repositions all windows from the minimized position.

MINIMIZE ALL - Minimizes all Simulator windows.

CLOSE ALL - Closes all open Sterling Trader® Pro windows except the Main Menu window (this feature is only available from the Main Menu window).

EXIT - Exits the platform and shuts down all Sterling Trader® Pro windows.

From your General settings, you can also change where your layout will be loaded from on startup:

Load Settings from Previous Shutdown - Loads the layout of the windows in place at your last shutdown.  If your system goes down unexpectedly, this setting will reload the layout as it was when you lost connection.  It does not save the layout, but reloads all the previous settings.

Load Layout - Select a default, pre-saved layout to automatically load upon logging in.  Click the "..." button to choose your default layout.

How to Find Your Layouts Folder or Download a New Default Layout (Long Version)

When you first download the WT Sim, a file of default layouts gets downloaded along with it. If you're having trouble uploading a layout, it may just be a matter of finding those files on your computer. On the main toolbar on the WT Sim, go to Actions > Load Layout...

A file explorer window should open. Ideally, it will open to your Layouts folder like shown below:

If yours doesn't default to your Layouts folder, try clicking these buttons in this order to find the folder where it is typically located:

1. This PC
2. Windows (C:)
3. Program Files
4. Warrior
5. WarriorTradingSIM
6. Layouts

If the layouts file (step 6) is not there, or the .lyt files within the layouts folder are missing, no worries! You can download the .zip file that is attached to the bottom of this support article (just scroll down!),

Once you have that file downloaded, it will be, by default, in your Downloads folder, and it will be a .zip file. If you're not aware, .zip files are file types that allow other files to be compressed into a smaller file. So, there are a handful of layouts (which are .lyt files) within that .zip file.

On the WT Sim now, go to File > Load Layout > and then find your Downloads folder by going to This PC > Downloads. For the drop-down that says "Files of type" you'll want to change it to "All files" since we are now looking for a .zip file. You should then see the latest downloads at the top of your list (assuming your list is sorted by "Date Modified")

When you find that .zip file, you'll now need to do the following:

1. Right click on it
2. Click Extract All
3. Put the files somewhere you can easily find them, rather than the Downloads folder. We suggest putting them with the other WT Sim files. To do this, click Browse > This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files (> Warrior > WarriorTradingSIM. At this point, if you do have a Layouts folder, click Layouts and then "Select Folder". If you do NOT have a Layouts folder, right click on white space in the file explorer window, and click New > Folder, and create a folder called "Layouts" or "Layouts 2." Select that folder and click the Select Folder button.
